What the Future Brought
The gallant young man tucked a lock of long black hair behind his ear as he peered into the glass case. Many fine and expensive watches glittered back at him, waiting to see which one would be chosen. None of them particularly piqued his interest, and with a sigh he pointed to one at random and asked to see it.
"Yes, Sir." The salesman rushed to be of service, seeing as the man had just pointed to the most expensive watch in the store. Pulling the piece of jewelry out of the case, he handed it to the man and began explaining all the fine points of the item. He seemed more excited about it than the customer.
The man listened boredly for a moment before his mind began to wander. Eyes glanced around the store, then made their way out the door, gazing at the large fountain in the center of the shopping mall...then widened at what they saw.
He was unmistakable, the youth sitting there. Though reincarnation had changed him a bit, there was no doubt it was the same long sliver hair and sparkling emerald eyes. One could almost swear he had a pair of beautiful white wings affixed to his back.
"Teteiyus..." the name was whispered from the dark-haired man's lips. It had been thousands of years since he'd seen him. Several reincarnation cycles had passed, but he recognized his former second-in-command instantly.
"Sir? Are you listening, Sir?"
The clerk's voice brought the man out of his thoughts. "Yes," he waved a slender hand, "it's fine. I'll take it."
"Right away, Sir," the little man disappeared to package the expensive watch.
The gentleman's attention turned back to the former demon sitting outside the store. He had a familiar lonely look on his face as he sat by himself, and the dark-haired man considered going to him. What would he say? What would he do? Would he even recognize him? Would he be happy? Angry? So many scenarios could occur....
Of it's own will, the dark-haired man's right foot took a slow step forward, followed a moment later by the left. The counter moved away from him as he took another step, as if in a trance. "Tetei...." Several more steps followed.
He stopped short, taken out of his reverie, when the young man stood up. He saw the soft lips move as the angel scowled, scolding someone. Then the even bigger shock came when he saw just whom it was the other spoke to. Wild black hair, feral grin, smirking even as he was being reprimanded for his lateness; it could be none other. "Zadei...." And when the former demon-general swooped down for a quick kiss to the silver-haired youth's lips, receiving a small smile in return, the man couldn't help but feel his heart contract.
Unusual reaction.
Probably more shock than anything, he certainly didn't have any romantic feelings towards the other but seeing his former friend with his former enemy...it was strange. And yet, at the same time it made sense, and he couldn't stop a small smile from flitting across his lips as he shook his head. The angel deserved happiness, and if the demon could give it to him who was to complain?
The man took back his steps. His presence would be more of a disturbance than anything; he would not approach the youth. Instead he just watched from afar as the pair trotted off, hand-in-hand.
"Laures?" When a small hand took his own, the man turned to see a beautiful blonde looking up at him. "Are you all right, Laures?" she asked softly. "You look like you've just seen a ghost."
He shook his head, "no, it's nothing." A quick glance out showed the couple gone, and the moment was over. Content, he put his arm around his love, happy that she was there, in this life, with him.
And for the first time in a long time, his heart felt a sense of peace, knowing now that everything was going to be ok...for everyone.
